Nature

Reconnect with the powers of nature. Well known for its mental health benefits, the great outdoors doesn’t have to be a 2 hour trek to reap the benefits. Here are some easier ways to reconnect:

The best plants known for their air purifying nature are: Spider Plant, Aloe Vera, Snake plant (mother-in-laws tongue), Peace Lily’s and many more.
  • Gardening. Whether you have your own garden, a balcony or you volunteer in your local park, gardening is not only good for your mental health but also your physical health. Switching off from the digital world and focusing on nature does wonders for your self-esteem and confidence.
  • Woodland walks. There is something about being surrounded by ancient trees and woodlands, that brings your mind to a halt. Being surrounded by the strongest and oldest forms of nature can really put things into perspective. Try a walk in the woods for instant stress relief, gaining perspective and clarity.

Relax

Have you ever rested physically but still felt exhausted? We tend to think of relaxation as physical rest. Though, there are many different types of rest: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, sensory, and creative. Here are some tips to help you get your energy back:

  • Have time alone. It is so important to have time away from others to decompress, switch off and to hear your own thoughts. Take time to do things that bring you joy, read a book, have a bubble bath, write or just be.
  • Notice energy drainers. Take note of who is around, what you are doing and what you are thinking about when you start to feel fatigue. Energy drainers can leave you feeling exhausted, distance yourself the from these people, places, tasks or journal any thoughts that steal your energy.

Mindful

Adding in aspects of mindfulness to your everyday. Being fully present is sometimes hard when there are 101 things on your mind and on your to do list. Here are some tips to sneak in mindful moment throughout the day:

  • A mindful breakfast. Getting up just 10 minutes earlier to sit down and eat breakfast can have a huge impact on the rest of your day. Sitting down with no other distractions (phone, emails etc), take your time to fully chew each mouthful slowly, focusing on the flavours and textures.
  • On the go: Whilst driving it is not uncommon for people to end up at their destination without any memory of getting there. Whether you are driving, walking or sitting on the bus or train, take 10 minutes to become fully aware of your surroundings. Focus on naming four things you can see, three things you can hear, two things you can smell and one thing you can taste.
